Winding your spinning top
Here is the very first step to learn the art of spinning a top.
Winding it can be tricky at first… and remember, every spintop is different.
Remember:
The button should be well anchored to the back of your fingers.
Right-handed wind clockwise opposite to left-handed.
Hard pull your first 3 string turns around and up to the tip.
Verify the angle of your top before throwing and modify it if necessary.
Throwing a spintop with a string:
The front throw
There are many ways to throw a spintop, the simplest to learn for us is the front throw we like to call “pétanque throw”.
The video shows here the “lateral throw” used by most of the jugglers as it leads nicely the the “Boomerang“.
You should also try and achieve the “fight throw” to start spinning top fighting with friends!
Remember:
The top in your hand should be tip visible.
Your fingers shouldn’t really hold the spintop but your thumb.
Move your whole arm not just your hand or forearm, if needed, adjust the top release from 90 ° to 140° (approximately :))
The lateral throw
The video shows here the “lateral throw” used by most of the jugglers as it leads nicely the the “Boomerang“.
You should also try and achieve the “fight throw” to start spinning top fighting with friends!

The top in your hand should be tip visible.

The fight throw
The fight throw is commonly used across the world to play top fights, even if some regions don’t throw this way…
This time the spintop will be thrown from up to down giving you more power to attack opponents!
When you can throw, try to target some things!
Done! What’s next?
Firstly, you can now play with spintops, working your throws you should quickly progress and be precise, challenging you to target some arenas, frisbees and such stuff.
You can enjoy to walk the dog as next goal.
You can try to throw under your leg, behind the head and so on…
Of course you from now on try to get back your spintop to your hand with a “big scoop” or a “sky rocket“.
